New Breakthrough! Qingdao Base Wins the First Prize of the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Award for the First Time!

On June 27, the Provincial Science and Technology Conference of Shandong Province was grandly held in Jinan. The conference commended and awarded the projects and individuals who won the 2024 Provincial Science and Technology Awards.

First Prize of Shandong Provincial Technology Invention

The project "Key Technologies and Applications of a New Underwater Acoustic Sensing Imaging and Intelligent Interpretation System," led by Professor Qin Zhiliang's team, was awarded the "First Prize of the Shandong Province Technical Invention Award." This marks the first time the university has received a Shandong Province Science and Technology Award as the lead institution for its operations in Shandong.

Project Introduction

The project, titled "Key Technologies and Applications of a New Underwater Acoustic Sensing Imaging and Intelligent Interpretation System," addresses critical technical challenges in the field. These include large temperature drift errors in autonomous underwater acoustic sensors, high directivity fluctuations in array transducers, low measurement accuracy of multibeam sonar, and low accuracy in the interpretation of multi-modal acoustic information. Supported by key scientific research tasks from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the project has successfully developed a series of core technologies. These include high-performance fiber-optic hydrophones and intelligent diagnostic methods for temperature drift, three-dimensional high-resolution imaging algorithms for multi-beam synthetic aperture sonar, and parallel processing and intelligent interpretation techniques for multi-modal acoustic information. Building on these innovations, an original and novel underwater acoustic sensing imaging and intelligent interpretation system has been developed. The overall performance of the system has reached an internationally advanced level, with some technologies achieving a leading international position. The system has played a pivotal role in major national initiatives, such as the domestic development and production of seafloor exploration nodes, the National Marine Survey Program, site surveys for offshore wind farms, and ultra-deepwater well site selection. It has effectively promoted the independent and controllable development of China's marine survey and monitoring, as well as marine resource development.
