Qingdao lnnovation and Development Base of Harbin Engineering University (hereinafter referred to as Qingdao Base) is jointly established by Harbin Engineering University and the Qingdao Municipal People's Government. It is the academic and research institution of Harbin Engineering University, located in the University Town of the Guzhenkou Integration Innovation Zone in the Qingdao West Coast New Area, with the Yellow Sea to the east and Dazhu Mountain to the west. It covers an area of 2000 mu with a planned construction area of over l.4 million square meters. The first phase of the project, with a construction area of 37 square meters, has been completed and officially inaugurated in September 2021.

The Qingdao Base focuses on cutting-edge interdisciplinary fields such as ocean development, marine new materials, marine acoustic technology, marine unmanned systems, ship intelligent power, and marine intelligent robots. It offers 14 academic disciplines including Ocean Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Power Engineering and Thermophysics, Designing and Manufacturing of Ship and Ocean Structures. The faculty and staff consist of over 300 members, including 5 foreign academicians and 36 talents at the provincial and ministerial level or above. The Qingdao Base has a total of 636 million yuan in scientific research projects, with 35 National Natural Science Funds, 41 provincial and municipal funds, 12 national key research and development projects, and 13 science research projects with a budget of over 10 million yuan. The total number of teaching and research equipment exceeds 6,000 units.

The Qingdao Base adheres to an integrated layout of education, science and technology, talent, and industry. It is committed to becoming an important base for maritime experiments, a highland for attracting high-level innovative talents from home and abroad, a demonstration zone for joint education with world-class universities and international well-known companies, and an important platform for the transformation and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.
