From October 13th to 30th, the 2024 METANANO SCHOOL on Nanophotonics and Advanced Materials, and the Qingdao Sub-forum of 2024 International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research, and Application successfully held at the Qingdao Base. It is supported by the China Scholarship Council and the National Center for Schooling Development Programme, hosted by Harbin Engineering University, and co-organized by Peking University and Fudan University.
This event invited 4 academicians, 8 national-level talents, and 29 senior professors from world-renowned universities, with over 100 experts, scholars, and outstanding students from around the world participating. Top experts and scholars gathered together to discuss the latest advancements and future trends in the field of nanophotonics and metamaterials.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Song Mingzhao introduced the historical evolution, recent developments, educational characteristics of Harbin Engineering University, as well as the basic construction situation of the International Joint Research Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials (hereinafter referred to as "MetaNano Center").
Professor Sergey Makarov highlighted the progress in the construction of the MetaNano Center's experimental platform and provided a detailed introduction to the capacity building in areas such as the chemical synthesis cluster, optical characterization cluster, microwave electronics cluster, and micro-nano processing cluster.
Professor Andrey Bagdanov pointed out that nanophotonics and metamaterials are one of the most active research hotspots in the current fields of physics and information technology. The lectures, seminars, cultural practices, and industry exchanges arranged in this event open a window for participating students to the forefront of international academia.
The innovative journey of nanophotonics and metamaterials begins in the special lectures, with 41 specialized courses covering a wide range of topics. The speakers showcased their breakthrough progress in their respective fields, including information metamaterials, wireless energy transfer, perovskite energy devices, and all-dielectric nanophotonics.
Academician Cui Tiejun from Southeast University, Academician Yuri Kivshar from the Australian National University, Academician Chen Ziting from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Academician Andrey Rogach from the City University of Hong Kong, Professor He Sailin from Zhejiang University, Professor Pavel Belov from ITMO University, Professor Wang Shuming from Nanjing University, Professor Song Qinghai from Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Ma Renmin from Peking University, Professor Li Guixin from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Li Xiangping from Jinan University, Professor Jiang Jianhua from Soochow University, Professor Ren Mengxin from Nankai University, and Professor Peng Chao from Peking University, among others, delivered important keynote lectures.
The atmosphere at the lectures was warm and focused. During the interactive session, participants eagerly asked questions, with a continuous flow of inquiries and insights.
In the poster session, scholars engaged in intellectual debates and creative collisions. Distinguished from the traditional poster presentation format, this event also introduced a physical display segment, especially the design and demonstration of a three-dimensional wireless charging house based on metamaterials, which attracted much attention. This integration of traditional and innovative display methods has opened up new perspectives for scientific research communication.
